About your practitioner Kim
I have been working as a Physiotherapist for over 20 years. I love working with people and helping them achieve their goals of moving with greater ease and being able to enjoy the things in life they love doing. I have extensive experience working in the field of Neurological Physiotherapy- both in the public setting of hospitals and rehabilitation, and in the private setting including NDIS and TAC. Many of the clients I have had the pleasure of working with have neurological conditions such as stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons Disease, MND, SCI or Cerebral Palsy, or they may be experiencing pain or balance and mobility issues. I currently work in the Motor Neurone Disease clinic at Barwon Health and see private clients in their home environment/gym or residential setting through my business Neuro Focus. More recently I have been studying the Feldenkrais Method® and now run weekly classes available to all from a venue in Torquay and Grovedale in Victoria. I am excited to be able to offer this fantastic method to people in my local community via Awareness Through Movement® classes so they can also experience its benefits.
Our Classes
Awareness Through Movement ® Classes
Awareness Through Movement ® Classes help you find greater ease in your movements while building a greater ability to sense yourself and your movements. The classes provide an environment in which your nervous system can learn new ways of moving through gentle, slow and pain-free movement patterns. The practitioner will guide you through a sequence of movements that you explore to your own ability. Through this exploration you will become aware of your movement habits and then curiously discover alternative ways to move. These classes aren’t just a mindful practice or merely a movement class. Combining awareness and movement, the body and nervous system can reorganise and work as a more efficient system. Classes are suitable for all levels of performance, age and fitness.
What is Feldenkrais?
The Feldenkrais Method® is a method for improving people’s lives through better movement, sensation, breathing and posture. It is based on learning how you move through more sensitive awareness and then discovering more efficient and easier ways to move.
Our brain has the capacity to modify the way we respond and organise ourselves through experience and learning. This is the concept of neuroplasticity. It uses the same principles and processes we learned as babies using exploration and curiosity along with our attention to how our body moves and responds during activities.
With the Feldenkrais Method® we can recognise what our habitual patterns of movement are and learn new movement pathways towards more efficient, effortless actions, having whole body connections. Discover pain-free, effortless ways of moving. Your body learns what is best for itself, not someone else’s body. We are all unique and only your own body knows how to heal and move itself in the best way.
